Bard Announces State Funding for Ardsley Community Education Center

The Commonwealth has approved a $5,000 grant for refurbishment of the Ardsley Community Education Center, according to Montgomery County lawmaker Rep. Ellen M. Bard (R-153).

Bard, who was instrumental in the center’s securing the funding from the Department of Community of Economic Development, said the money will be used for improvements to the gymnasium and adjoining restrooms, including lighting improvements, protective padding for walls and upgrading sinks and water fountains.

The center was built in 1931 and was the home of the Ardsley Elementary School until it was taken over by the Abington Township Bureau of Parks and Recreations in 1978.

“These improvements will make for a safer, cleaner and more accessible environment for the many groups that use the center,” Bard said.  “I am very pleased the state is aiding the township in financing these improvements.”
