CAPT Initiatives Benefited from State Money, Says Bard
ABINGTON - The $7,500 grant secured for Citizens and Police Together (CAPT) by Montgomery County lawmaker Rep. Ellen M. Bard (R-153) went a long way to benefit Abington.
"So many great programs are using a share of the grant money to do wonderful things in Abington," Bard said. "I comment CAPT for its stewardship of the money."
According to the lawmaker, the following organizations were allocated a portion of the grant she obtained from the Commonwealth for CAPT :
Post Prom Party - Provided a safe and drug-free party for students at their proms.
Visible House Project - Provided a student with the materials to build a model house used for teaching proper techniques for exiting a burning building.
National Symposium On Child Sexual Abuse - Two officers from Abington were sent to the conference.
Safety Bug - A specially designed car used to simulate the effects drinking can have on driving was used in the parking lot at Abington High School.
T-Shirts - Shirts for students from Abington High School who will participate in the Hershey Track and Field Competition were purchased.
Abington Parenting Center - Offers education and support to parents of children of all ages.
Tip Line Magnets - Refrigerator magnets that advertise the Abington Township Anti-Violence Tips Line were produced and mailed to all students in Abington Township.
Holiday Meals for Needy Families - Meals were provided during the holidays to families identified as being in need.
Oil For Needy Families - Fuel oil was delivered to households that were identified as in need.
Over the past three years, CAPT has distributed over $21,000. Past benefactors of CAPT assistance have included Roslyn Fire Police, St. Hillary's Peace Program, Internet Safety Training Classes, Junior Volunteers, Roslyn Works, Positive Force, Teen At Risk Program, Kindergarten Pen Pals, Operation Reassurance, The Kids Care Project and Worry Dolls.
"CAPT has done as much as any local agency to make our community a better place to live, work, and raise a family," Bard said. "The list of benefactors and programs speaks for itself."
