Low-Cost Vehicle Registration Renewals for Senior Citizens

Many senior citizens in Pennsylvania qualify for low-cost vehicle registration renewals, according to Rep. Ellen Bard (R-1 53).

State residents who are retired and have an income that does not exceed $19,200 annually may be eligible to pay a $10 vehicle registration processing fee instead of the regular passenger car registration fee of $36.

To qualify for the reduced fee, motorists must be receiving Social Security or other pension income and must be the principal driver of the vehicle.

Only cars and light trucks that do not exceed 9,000 pounds gross weight or registered gross weight are covered by the program, and only one vehicle per eligible person may be registered for the reduced fee. Retired couples who meet the guidelines and who have two cars in joint ownership are eligible to have both vehicles registered under the program.

For more information on reduced fee vehicle registrations, contact Bard's office at 1175 Old York Road. Abington. The telephone number is (215) 881-BARD.
