D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a program run by trained police officers who go into the schools and accomplish a two-fold objective. First and foremost they educate our youth on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and on methods of avoiding violence. In the process, the youngsters also get to know their local police officers and develop a bond in many cases. In the Abington/Rockledge school district, the D.A.R.E. program operates in public and private elementary schools, the Junior High School and the Senior High School.
Representative Bard's involvement with this program has been on-going. Ellen reguarly attends D.A.R.E. graduation ceremonies. She also authored legislation that created the D.A.R.E. Licence Plate.
Pennsylvania's D.A.R.E. license
plate contributes money to the expansion and success of the D.A.R.E.
program in Pennsylvania. Abington Township students participated in the D.A.R.E. license plate design contest sponsored by Representative Bard. Officer Mike
Begley of the Abington Police Department provided the critical perspective of the line D.A.R.E. officer. Student designs provided the basis for the final design we see
today as the D.A.R.E. license plate. It is Representative
Bard's hope that each D.A.R.E. license plate will serve as a
constant reminder of the importance of our on-going fight against drugs, alcohol and
violence. By the way, Representative Bard can help you find out if certain numbers are
available and can help get you faster processing if you bring the application directly to
her office. To order a D.A.R.E. license plate contact Representative's Bard's District Office or click here to find a copy of the application form.
